Well, I think this Newbery Merlin Players bat has perfect pickup and it feels very light. I also think that this bat has a excellent middle with a lot off "ping" off the surface. The makers of these bats should keep up the good work. The bat that I have in my bag at the moment is a Mjolnir and I have to say I'm more than impressed by it.

At first, Newbery’s bat makers thought we couldn’t achieve the (most popular) weight of 2lb 8oz or lighter unless we opted for a shorter blade, as they did with their Kudos bat, but we aren’t massive fans of the longer handle that is needed for such bats, so we stressed that if there is any way that they can keep the blade to a conventional length, they should do it – we suggested they contour the shoulders, and lo and behold, they managed it!

Newbery Series 1 *****. At first glance the bat looked like it wouldn't perform. It only had 6 grains of grade 2 English Willow and they weren't very straight. The Series 1 has a traditional very profile very similar to the Mjolnir. The pick up was similar as well. The middle was good without being spectacular.
